In Los Angeles Thursday, the Kings got a 28-save effort from Peter Budaj s they defeated the slumping Edmonton Oilers, 4-2.
Jeff Carter, Devin Setoguchi, Derek Forbort and Tyler Toffoli scored for the Kings who improved to 8-9-1.
“We scored the first goal. We’ve been trying to do that,” Kings head coach Darryl Sutter said. “We’ve had trouble doing that. We were able to get a two-goal lead, then obviously as the game went on, to get a two-goal lead again, I’ve said it lots, that’s the way it works.”
The Oilers have now lost five straight and have sagged to 9-8-1.

Darnell Nurse and Oscar Klefbom were the Oilers goal scorers.
And bad habits are returning to the Oilers’ game including slow starts.
“It seems to vary from night to night positionally,” McLellan said. “Whether it’s a D-man with a turnover, the forwards coughing something up and not getting in position at the right time. It’s certainly something we’re aware of, we’re concerned with, and trying to fix.”
Carter’s goal was a shorthanded tally in the second that gave the Kings the lead and deflated the Oilers.
“We didn’t get the save, but there were other mistakes on it,” McLellan said. “I thought it sucked the life out of us for a little bit.”
Jonas Gustavsson made 21 saves in the loss.
