In Glendale, the Los Angeles Kings’ Viktor Arvidsson hit for his second goal of the game in the third period to snap a 2-2 tie with the Arizona Coyotes on Wednesday and help them to a 3-2 win.
“I think we’re really hard to play against, we’re on the puck all time and that frustrates the other team. I think that’s our strength,” Arvidsson said. “We take pucks to the net and we create offensive chances and play really solid defensively.”
Cal Petersen made 17 saves in the LA win.
Clayton Keller and Barrett Hayton were the Arizona strikers.
“There was not a lot of space tonight,” Arizona head coach Andre Tourigny said. “It was tough to get into their slot, tough to have quality scoring chances.”
The Coyotes dropped to 13-34-4.
“They try to slow it down, it’s tough to gain possession to the neutral zone when they’re sitting back,” Arizona’s Nick Schmaltz said. “It’s tough to come with speed because they just kind of stand there and clog the neutral zone. … It’s kind of frustrating.”
The Kings improved to 27-17-7.
The Coyotes took a 1-0 lead off the Keller goal, but LA replied 18 seconds later off a marker from Blake Lizotte.
“`Lizzo’s’ line generally provides us with some energy, and they bring us back,” Los Angeles head coach Todd McLellan said. “Tonight they scored, which was tremendous, it kept us around.”
LA is 7-0-2 over their last nine games.
“We got some good clears, forced them to ice the puck on the power play. That doesn’t happen often on 6-on-4,” McLellan said. “It went our way in certain situations, but we earned it.”
Scott Wedgewood made 32 saves in the Coyotes loss.
