Kings drop 4-3 loss in Carolina

In Raleigh on Sunday afternoon, the Carolina Hurricanes downed the Los Angeles Kings, 4-3, behind two power play goals from Justin Faulk.

“Just trying to shoot and get pucks on net,” Faulk said. “If it goes in, it goes in. Just trying to do the same thing every time; create momentum, create chances.”

“Hopefully it’s a confidence builder, for the power play and keeping the lead going into the third period,” Kris Versteeg said. “That’s always nice when you get rewarded for a lot of hard effort.”

Jonathan Quick made 17 saves through two periods of play; Jhonas Enroth came into the game at the start of the third and made eight saves.

“They scored four goals in (21) shots,” Kings coach Darryl Sutter said. “That’s not good enough.”

The Canes built a 3-0 lead on the Kings before LA could any offense going.

Brett Pesce, Jeff Skinner and Faulk scored for the three-goal lead.

“There are probably four or five guys in the League that (opposing players) don’t quite find the shooting lane on because it hurts (to block the shot). Faulk is in that group,” Carolina coach Bill Peters said. “He has a quick release, guys are putting it in good spots for him and he keeps shooting it.”

Cam Ward got the win on 26 saves.

Anze Kopitar scored twice and Dustin Brown added a goal for the Kings.

“I believe in our group and I like the way we are going,” Peters said. “It was a full 60 minutes. We need to be hungry for points and we found the way to get some today and score some goals.”
