Kings double-up Detroit, 4-2

In Los Angeles Sunday, Jack Campbell made 36 saves for the Kings to propel them to a 4-2 win over the Detroit Red Wings.

Campbell is in the lineup after Jonathan Quick was placed on injured reserve for a lower body injury suffered in practice earlier in the week.

Alex Iafallo struck twice for the Kings and Anze Kopitar and Paul LaDue added single markers.

“We felt all along he (Iafallo) did a lot of good things last year, didn’t capitalize on some of his opportunities. He’s looked like he has taken his game to another level in all areas,” Kings coach John Stevens said. “A little bit stronger, a little bit quicker, a little more confident with the puck, and I thought that last goal was just a terrific catch-and-release.”

The Red Wings power play clicked on both of their goals with Anthony Mantha and Dylan Larkin each potting markers with the club a man up.

“I think we gave it our best tonight,” Red Wings forward Frans Nielsen said. “It was tough, but it was good to see that we can play like that. And if we keep repeating and play the way we did today we’re going to win a lot of games.”

Ilya Kovalchuk kicked in two assists on the night, his first points since 2013.

“I feel like he’s a very underrated passer,” Kopitar said. “The plays he made to Alex for the third goal, you don’t see that every day. We all know he’s a great shooter, but people don’t realize how good of a passer he is.”

Jonathan Bernier made 21 saves in the loss.

“Both units chipped in. Both the goals weren’t the tic-tac-toe prettiest goals, but we had great net-front presences and just throwing them there and they went in,” Larkin said after the loss.
