In Los Angeles, The Kings replied to goals form the Washington Capitals in the second and third periods with two strikes in each frame en route to a 4-2 win on Monday night.
Mikey Anderson‘s third period goal came after Alex Ovechkin had scored in the third to tie the game, 2-2.
“We want to keep building our game,” Kings center Phillip Danault said. “We know we can get even better, and obviously we want to carry that into the playoffs.”
Pheonix Copley made 20 saves in he LA win.
“We were patient to score and we were committed to check, and those two things are pretty good traits to have this time of year,” Kings coach Todd McLellan said.
The Kings improved to 37-20-8, they are now tied with the Vegas Golden Knights for fist in the Pacific Division. Vegas has to games in hand.
After a scoreless first stanza, Rasmus Sandin staked the Caps to a 1-0 lad in the second period.
“Luckily I got a little touch on it, and luckily it went in, but it didn’t help us enough tonight,” said Sandin, who has five points (one goal, four assists) in two games with Washington since being acquired from the Toronto Maple Leafs on Feb. 28. “Still nice to get that first one out of the way, for sure.”
The Capitals dropped to 31-28-6.
LA responded with two goals in the second period, the first from Vladislav Gavrikov to tie the game, 1-1.
“I knew it was going to take a while, like learning the details and stuff,” Gavrikov said. “I feel more comfortable every game.”
Danault scored in the second to put the the Kings ahead, 2-1, headed to the third period.
Adrian Kempe added a ;ate empty-net goal for the 4-2 final.
Darcy Kuemper made 37 saves in the loss.
“If you start looking at the big picture and trying to do the math and everything like that, obviously it can get a little daunting,” Kuemper said. Win the next one and go from there.”
