In Los Angeles Saturday night, the Kings handed the Vancouver Canucks their first loss of the season, albeit a shootout defeat, 4-3.
But the Canucks are not the tam of the last few seasons; at least not so far in the new campaign.
The Kings held a three-goal lead in the game before Vancouver rallied to force extra time as they are want to do so far in 2016.
“We sure didn’t deserve a point after the first two periods,” Vancouver coach Willie Desjardins said.
Trailing 3-0 the Canucks got goals from Markus Granlund and Henrik Sedin before the end of the middle frame.
But they turned that around in the third period when Alexander Edler scored with just under 35 seconds left in regulation.
“We had a three-goal lead. It’s something we don’t want to give up [but] finding that extra point is huge. We’re just playing to our identity, really, as a team. We’re not going to run and gun with teams,” LA’s Dustin Brown said of the collapse.
Tanner Pearson scored the game-winner in the skills competition to salvage the Kings’ night.
Brown, Pearson and Brayden McNabb scored the Kings in regulation.
“We would have liked to have kept it going. It’s a tough league,” Vancouver’s Jannik Hansen said. “ Every game has been close for us as well. It could definitely be different than the 4-0-1 we are now. We’ll take it right now.”
