Kesler scores in OT to lift Ducks past LA Ducks back atop NHL

The Anaheim Ducks needed extra time, 45 seconds of extra time, to beat the Los Angeles Kings Wednesday night.  Ryan Kesler skated out from behind the LA net and held the puck until he reached the top of the right circle and wristed a shot past Jonathan Quick for the 3-2 win.

“It’s a team game, but obviously you want to put your best foot forward,” Kesler said. Anaheim Ducks“You want to make them happy that they brought you here and succeed in why they brought you here. I thought the team played well tonight. It’s not just me against the Kings. It’s the whole team. We play hard against them, and we definitely deserve these wins that we’re getting.”

It was Kesler’s 200th career NHL goal.

“I knew I had a lot of time,” Kesler said. “I turned the corner and placed it. You don’t get that open that often. When you have that much room to skate in from the top circles down and tee one up, you’re going to take it.”

Jakob Silfverberg and Patrick Maroon scored for the Ducks in the second period to overcome a 1-0 LA lead on a first period goal from Jeff Carter.

“I had a pretty slow start, but I’ve said it before, I think I’ve played pretty good in the beginning too,” Silfverberg said. “I just didn’t get the bounces. But the last couple of games I’ve been getting a lot of confidence from the coaches and at the same time, the bounces have been kind of coming to me.”

Justin Williams scored late in the third to tie the game at 2-2.

“We always seem to have belief in this room that we’ll keep going, and we did again tonight,” Kesler said. “They’re a good team over there and they battled back, but we never stop believing in this room.”
