Kane, Oilers rally past Seattle for 4-3 win in OT Kane hat trick leads Oilers

In Seattle, the Kraken took a 3-1 lead in the second period after the Edmonton’s  Connor McDavid had staked the Oilers to a 1-0 plead earlier in the frame.

Evander Kane then hit for a natural hat trick, with a double in the third period, and the game-winner in extra time for a 4-3 win.

“Obviously, these last couple games we’ve had big third periods and they’ve propelled us to wins, and I think we’re starting to find our groove a little bit here,” Kane said  . “We talked about it in the second intermission [that] we’ve got to create some energy, we’ve got to flick the switch, and I thought we did a pretty good job.”

Kane’s double came with 48 seconds left in regulation to force the extra session.

“The season is never going to be easy and there is never going to be no adversity,” Oilers coach Kris Knoblauch said. “The more things that you work and fight through and have success when it is all done, it is great for team building. The guys feel good and the next time you are in a difficult situation, they know they can handle it and that they can do this.

“Would I have liked us to win 5-0 because they played perfectly? Yes. But hopefully the way that we won today makes us a better team in the long run.”

Stuart Skinner made 32 saves in the win.

Edmonton moved to 5-9-1.

After taking the 1-0 lead in the middle frame, Seattle struck back with three straight goals in the period.

Jared McCann, Pierre-Edouard Bellemare and Alex Wennberg  scored to give the Kraken then 3-1 lead.

“We got a point out of it,” Bellemare said. “I thought we worked for it and we have to learn how to manage that push at the end. We were leading by two and we knew they were going to come with a push, [but] we gave up two at a key time of the game.

“We need better touches in the [defensive] zone, better poise at times. We know they are forechecking, but I think a bit of communication would help — not being too quiet in those moments and not being shy to make sure that everybody that is on the ice knows where the puck is supposed to go.”

Seattle dropped to 5-8-4.

“We played a [heck] of a hockey game,” Seattle coach Dave Hakstol said. “We played the way we exactly wanted to play on the road. Giving up the second one obviously gives them a little bit of juice and a little bit or momentum. We worked pretty hard all the way through the game today, and it all comes down to the tying goal.

“It’s disappointing without question because of how hard our players worked. It was a pretty solid road game that they played.”

Joey Daccord  made 27 saves in the loss.
