Prior to the game winning goal, St. Louis coach Ken Hitchcock called a timeout. The extra time allowed the visitors to bring their top line back sooner than anticipated.

Prior to Game 4, the Blackhawks had not given up a third period lead in over two seasons. The defending champions did it twice in three days this week.

Alex Pietrangelo caught the Blackhawks in a terrible line change and found Robby Fabbri streaking through the middle untouched. After receiving the pass, Fabbri made a pylon out of Brent Seabrook and scored his first goal of the series, cutting the deficit to one.

With just over five minutes remaining, David Backes redirected a Pietrangelo shot past the outstretched left leg of Crawford. Chicago blew defensive zone coverage allowing Pietrangelo to roam free along the blue line.2015-12-21 NHL PHI vs STL Defenseman Alex Pietrangelo (#27)

Chicago finally went to work late in the second period. Using some European flair, they grabbed a 2-1 lead. Teuvo Teravainen slid a pass across to Artemi Panarin whose shot was initially saved. The rebound laid on the top of the crease where Artem Anisimov pounded it home at 15:24.

With sustained pressure inside the offensive zone, the Blackhawks earned a late second period offensive zone faceoff. Johnathan Toews won the draw to Patrick Kane who from the corner delivered a perfect pass to Panarin, who scored with 0.4 on the clock.

After a scoreless first period, both teams struck on the same special team situation. With the Blackhawks a man down, Marian Hossa went shortside to score his 50th career postseason goal giving Chicago the 1-0 lead.

With Blues still holding the man advantage Jaden Schwartz scored 63 seconds later, beating the glove of Corey Crawford. Schwartz lit the lamp for the third time this postseason and gave the Blues their fifth power play goal of the series.

This was the fourth time the two clubs faced off in a multiple overtime game. The Blues had won the previous three.
