Kampf signs 4-year, $9.6 million contract to remain with Maple Leafs Forward could have been unrestricted free agent July 1; Smith traded to Penguins for 2024 Draft pick

David Kampf signed a four-year, $9.6 million contract to remain with the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday. It has an average annual value of $2.4 million.

The 28-year-old forward could have become an unrestricted free agent July 1. He had an NHL career-high 27 points (seven goals, 20 assists) in 82 games for the Maple Leafs this season and three assists in 11 Stanley Cup Playoff games.

Signed by the Chicago Blackhawks as an undrafted free agent May 1, 2017, Kampf has 111 points (35 goals, 76 assists) in 399 regular-season games for the Maple Leafs and Blackhawks, and six points (three goals, three assists) in 27 playoff games.

Toronto also signed forward Pontus Holmberg to a two-year, $1.6 million contract ($800,000 AAV). The 24-year-old could have become a restricted free agent July 1. He had 13 points (five goals, eight assists) this season, his first in the NHL, and did not play in the postseason.

The Maple Leafs (50-21-11) won a playoff series this season for the first time since 2004, defeating the Tampa Bay Lightning in six games before a five-game loss to the Florida Panthers in the Eastern Conference Second Round. Brad Treliving was named general manager May 31 after Toronto announced May 18 that Kyle Dubas would not return.
