PYEONGCHANG, S KOREA – The US women’s hockey team has finally stepped up on the center podium and listened to their own anthem being played at the medal ceremony.
On the anniversary of the greatest moment ever in US men’s hockey – the 1980 gold medal win – the US women secured gold for the first time in 20 years in a thrilling OT win what many are describing as the most electric and exciting game in women’s history.
And at the center of it all is Westfield, Mass’ own Kacey Bellamy.
Pro Hockey News highlighted the now three-time medalist with seven world titles in a feature story about her brother Corey Bellamy, who played five seasons in the ECHL and SPHL. A family with a deep hokey tradition, the Bellamy’s have 3 siblings that have played at pro level – or in Kacey’s case – earned gold.
“This is the best thing ever,” Kacey’s sister Lindsay told a local news crew. “A shooutout in the Olympics for the gold medal! How can you beat it? My dad, my brother, they’re all at the Olympics. All I have to say is: ‘I love you Kacey Bellamy, I’m so happy for you!’”
“If you stayed up late last night,” tweeted Journey’s Jonathan Cain on Feb. 22nd, “you heard our song ‘Don’t Stop Believin’ being played as the USA Women’s Hockey Team took home the gold medal!!”
The Bellamy’s never stopped believing.
