KALAMAZOO- Using the force of two Dane Fox first period goals, the Kalamazoo Wings defeated the Fort Wayne Komets 4-2 on Star Wars Night to lengthen their season-long winning streak to five games.
For the second straight night, Fox responded with a two-goal performance. Fox started the scoring 3:11 into the contest by one-timing an Eric Kattelus centering pass off the crossbar and into the net. The goal extended Fox’s point streak to five games and his goal streak to four games. Kattelus also pushed his point and assist streak to seven games.
Continuing his scoring touch late in the period, Fox notched his second goal of the night with an unassisted marker.
Inching their way back into the game early in the second period, Matthew Pistilli (11th) brought the Komets back to within a single goal by sneaking into the slot and knocking in a Reid Petryk pass from the behind the net.
Wasting no time to bring their cushion back to two goals, Kalamazoo’s Jean Bourbeau (4th) crashed the net and jammed in a third chance opportunity to give the K-Wings a 3-1 advantage 5:37 into the stanza.
Fort Wayne brought the deficit back to a single goal midway in the third period with a goal from Garrett Meurs (12th) that was setup immediately following a Komets face-off win in the K-Wings defensive zone.
Tacking on insurance with just less than two minutes remaining in regulation, Curtis Valk slid the puck to the tape of Matt Caria for the forward’s ninth goal of the season. The assist from Valk extended his point streak to five games, as well as gives him points in 11 out of his last 12 contests. Caria’s goal pushed his point streak to four games and extends his goal streak to three games.
