K-Wings let Walleye off the hook Kalamazoo loses 2-1 in a shootout to Toledo

TOLEDO- Rallying from a first period deficit, the Toledo Walleye increased their unbeaten streak to nine games (7-0-1-1) with a 2-1 shootout victory Friday night against the Kalamazoo Wings. Despite the loss, the K-Wings earned a point, which extended their unbeaten streak in regulation to seven games (6-0-0-1).

Kalamazoo earned the game’s first goal 12:56 into the period, when Dane Fox slid the puck to an Eric Kattelus, who crashed the net for his fourth goal of the season. The goal extended Kattelus’ point streak to a team season-high nine games.Toledo Walleye logo

Utilizing the league’s best man-advantage unit, the Walleye evened the game at 1-1 midway in the second period with a power-play goal from Troy Schwab. Following a Scott Munroe save, Martin Frk found the loose puck and gave it to Schwab for his ninth goal of the season.

Remaining tied through the third period and overtime, the game would be decided in a shootout. Toledo outscored Kalamazoo 3-2 in the extra session, with the K-Wings receiving goals from Justin Taylor and Gergo Nagy.
