K-Wings give up five unanswered scores in loss to Fort Wayne

FORT WAYNE, IN – The Kalamazoo Wings (19-13-0-0) couldn’t keep the Fort Wayne Komets (18-12-4-0) down and lost by a score of 5-2 at Allen County War Memorial Coliseum on Sunday.

Things looked on-par to start for the K-Wings as they jumped out to an early two goal lead.

Jake Slaker (10th goal of season) continued to make his presence known on the score sheet as he opened the scoring early in the first period.

On the goal, assisted by Tyler Rockwell (5th assist) and Matheson Iacopelli (5th assist), Slaker snapped a wicked wrister from the left circle that connected with the top-right corner just over five minutes in.

The former Michigan Wolverine now has four goals in the last three games for Kalamazoo.

In the second period, Tanner Sorenson (11th goal) pushed the K-Wings out to a 2-0 lead after receiving a gorgeous cross-crease feed from Justin Murray (6th assist), but the Komets would net five unanswered (one empty netter) to walk away on top.

Despite the loss, Kalamazoo finished the week 3-1 and winners of eight of its last 11 games dating back to December 19th.

Currently, the Wings (38 points) are just three points back of the No. 2 (Cincinnati) ranking in the Central Division as play pauses.

The K-Wings now head to the ECHL All-Star Break with action resuming in Wheeling (17-14-1-0) this Friday. Puck drop at WesBanco Arena is scheduled for 7:10 p.m.
