K-Wings call to Komets, 5-2

KALAMAZOO, MI – The Kalamazoo Wings (24-22-0-0) battled back to tie the game in the second period, but the Fort Wayne Komets (25-17-5-1) scored three straight goals to beat the K-Wings on Sunday, 5-2.

The fight was there throughout for Kalamazoo, but it gave up two power play goals in the first period and needed a comeback effort to make it a game.

K-Wings forward Raymond Brice (10) snapped a 11 game goalless streak with his redirection that found the back of the net at the 1:48 mark of the second. The initial shot was a quick wrister from just inside the blue line by Jeremy Masella (2), and Tyler Kobryn (8) earned the second assist on the goal.

Then Tanner Sorenson (14) wristed a puck from between the circles and scored on the power play at the 9:58 mark of the second to tie the game. The goal was a result of great decision making by Sorenson and an equally good screen by Erik Bradford. Captain Justin Taylor (22) and Justin Murray (11) earned the assists on the goal.

Unfortunately, the Komets added another goal with less than three minutes left in the second and scored two more times in the third.

Trevor Gorsuch (12-14-0-0) made 25 saves in the loss.

Next week, Kalamazoo plays three games on the road starting in Indy. Puck drop on Thursday is  scheduled for 10:30 a.m. EST.
