American defenceman Jim Jorgensen hopes the stunning Challenge Cup victory over Braehead Clan can be the springboard to turning around Genting Casino Coventry Blaze’s Elite League fortunes.
Blaze came from 4-1 down on aggregate to win the quarter-final tie 5-4 after penalty shots to book a last-four date with Cardiff Devils.
They return to league action and resume their battle for a play-off place at Sheffield Steelers on Saturday before Dundee Stars visit the Skydome on Sunday (5.15pm face-off).
Jorgensen, making his debut having only arrived on Tuesday, said: “It was a big win and something to build on.
“We went a goal down early but did not panic and we got one back right away. We were then a little bit more aggressive and it worked out for us.
“It will give us some confidence and hopefully we can push on now. The guys showed they are not going to quit and they will keep battling. There are two trophies still to play for and why can’t it be us?
“We need to go on a winning streak now and we have to start somewhere.”
Coach Chuck Weber was pleased with the contribution of Jorgensen.
He said: “He was fine. I kept asking him how his energy levels were and he managed to get through that first period.
“He kept it simple and he made some good passes.”
