Johnson, Tampa force Game 7 with Detroit Lightning defeat Detroit, 5-2

The table was set with the finest appointments but the Detroit Red Wings were late to the party and ended up losing Game 6 Monday night, 5-2, to the Tampa Bay Lightning. The loss means the teams head for Tampa for a deciding Game 7 Wednesday night.

Tyler Johnson scored two goals and was the game’s first star.

The game was a turnaround f sorts for the Lightning who have been lackluster in their losses in this series.2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs

“We skated. That’s what changed.” Lightning coach Jon Cooper said. “Pucks were going tape to tape, and we put them in areas we could get them.”

Alex Killorn, Jason Garrison and Cedric Paquette added goals for the Bolts.

“We have to get our mind right again and get ready for a Game 7,” Red Wings coach Mike Babcock said. “No team’s been able to win two games in a row thus far in the series, so let’s go to Tampa. I thought we were going along pretty fine there at the start, then next thing you know it’s in our net.”

Tomas Tatar scored both of Detroit’s goals.

Petr Mrazek made 23 saves and seemed mortal in Game 6. There were not the game-saving stops though the Wings kept the game close after the Bolts jumped out to a 3-0 lead. Tartar seemed to ready to rally the Wings back as he scored to twice to cut the lead to 3-2 early in the third.

Ben Bishop made 22 saves for the win.
