Jets will take point in OT loss

DENVER  – The Winnipeg Jets came into Denver after playing a really tough game Thursday night in Pheonix where they got a 3-2 win over the Arizona Coyotes . Friday night marked the second time they were playing the Avalanche on the back end of a back to back. The Jets fell 3-2 in overtime after Nikolaj Ehlers went to make a pass in overtime and shot it into his own net .

200px-Colorado_Avalanche_logo_svgJacob Trouba was making his season debut after holding out for the first part of the season and he didn’t look very rusty as he was thrust into heavy minutes as the Jets lost Tyler Myers to a lower body injury in the second period. He finished with just under 24 minutes.

Michael Hutchinson got the start for the Jets after sitting the last four games and he was looking to build on his shut out performance the last time he faced the Avalanche. He was the victim of some bad luck as he stopped 25 shots and had the bad luck in overtime.

Things got going quickly between these two Central Division rivals as Cody McLeod of the Avalanche and Chris Thorburn of the Jets dropped the gloves early in the first and had a very spirited tilt to get things going.

Mikko Rantanen notched his first NHL goal in the second period for the Avalanche to get them on the board . Rene Bourque scored his third of the season after a beauty play from Tyson Barrie to give the Avs a 2-0 lead .

Blake Wheeler scored his fifth of the season and second in as many nights to get the Jets going .

Mark Scheifele scored his 10th on the power play to tie things at 2-2 and extend his points streak to five games.

This was a physical affair as well as chippy and the Jets really grinded out a valuable point after the legs were burning on a back to back night .

After a couple of great stops in the extra period on both ends the Jets found some really bad luck when Ehlers was battling along the boards and tried passing the puck behind his net but shot it right past a surprised Hutchinson to give the Avs the win.

Rene Bourque was credited with his second of the night as he was the last Colorado player who touched the puck.

The Jets will head home with three of the possible four points and play host to the LA Kings on Sunday afternoon.
