WINNIPEG – The Winnipeg Jets looked like they were still in Halloween mode Sunday in Montreal as they were beaten by a 5-1 score in a very uninspired game where they couldn’t get much going at all.
Things started off badly for the Jets as they gave up a shorthanded goal six minutes into the game and things snowballed from there as the league-leading Canadiens remain perfect at home.
Montreal got goals from Paul Byron his second, a shorthanded marker, Thomas Fleishman scored a pair his third and fourth, David Desharnais got his third and Lars Eller notched his fourth.
The high flying Habs controlled this game from start to finish and chased Jets goalie Michael Hutchinson in the second period as he gave four goals on nine shots it was his first loss of the season and he wasn’t getting much help. Ondrej Pavelec relieved him and gave up one goal on 17 shots.
Mike Condon was making his fourth start of the year after news that Carey Price will be out for the next week with a minor injury picked up his fourth win stopping 18 of 19 shots.
Chris Thorburn got the lone Jets goal his second of the season after a nice play from Mark Scheifele and Nik Ehlers.
The Jets were a completely different team the night before in Columbus as they earned a 3-2 win over the Blue Jackets and played a solid road game jumping out to a 3-1 lead early and then cruising the rest of the way for the victory.
Ondrej Pavelec picked up the win stopping 19 shots for Winnipeg.
Goal scorers for the Jets were Bryan Little his 5th , Rookie Andrew Copp notched his 1st career NHL goal , Blake Wheeler his 6th of the season.
The Jets will look to rebound on as they will head to Toronto in a couple of days to take on the Leafs. They will need a big game from all four lines and get back to their hard skating, in your face type of hockey to keep pace in the tight Western Conference race.
