The Winnipeg Jets are the real deal so far this season in the NHL.
On Monday night, the Jets extended their current point streak t eight games with a 4-1 over the Stars in Dallas.
“I have a real strong memory of very, very tight, tough games,” Jets head coach Paul Maurice said. “What I like is these have been tough games and we’ve battled hard. Haven’t had control of the whole game by any means, we’re not blowing anybody out of the water, but we’re battling hard.”
Tight games yes, but the Jets are winning those tight games unlike previous seasons where tight games would have been surrendered late.
Blake Wheeler assisted on all four goals Monday night as the Jets moved to 5-0-3 in their streak.
Mark Scheifele struck for two goals and Patrik Laine and Kyle Connorscored for Winnipeg.
Scheifele scored on the first shot of the game off a terrific dish from Wheeler.
“It was a great drive by [Wheeler],” Scheifele said. “He made it all happen. Happy to be the one benefiting from it.”
Connor Hellebuyck made 33 saves for the win and is 8-0-2 on the season.
Jamie Benn was the lone goal scorer for Dallas when he cut the Jets lead to 3-1.
“It’s embarrassing, really. It seems like you can pretty much win a hockey game in the first period these days. They’ve done it to us twice now, and we did it to Buffalo last game, there is no excuse. It’s embarrassing,” Benn said on the early results in the game.
In Past years, that goal might have changed the Jets’ fortunes but Monday the Jets added one more and held the Stars off the board the rest of the way.
Scheifele scored an empty netter late to seal it.
“You know what, all over on both sides of that puck, big numbers score goals, right? But they’re on at the start of the third to finish the kill too. In the defensive parts of the game, their shift length was good too. Real nice job leading by example in terms of how we want to play, and they seem to be getting better and stronger,” Paul Maurice said after the win.

Ben Bishop took the loss on 22 saves.
“You always talk about it ever since you were little,” Bishop said of the Scheifele goal. “Can’t give up goals in the first minute of the period and the last minute of the period. Supposed to really hunker down there and we gave up a goal in the first minute and the last minute, and we can’t be happy with that.”
