Jets unseat Montreal, 4-2

In Montreal, the Winnipeg Jets’ Connor Hellebuyck made 36 saves in a 4-2 win over the Canadiens on Thursday night.

Phillip Danault and Paul Byron scored for the Habs.

Josh Morrissey gave the Jets a 1-0 lead with just 18 seconds gone in the game, before  Danault tied it up 1-1.

“We’ll take the two points, a big win on the road,” Morrissey said. “They played hard. You know what to expect against Montreal every night, but especially here. And considering they were on back to back, they worked extremely hard and put a lot of pucks to the net. We won the game, so obviously we’re excited about that. We’ll make some adjustments and be ready for our next one.”

Trevor Lewis  put the Jets ahead again with a goal in the opening frame.

Nikolaj Ehlers made it 3-1 for Winnipeg.

“I get a little bit angry because I have no control over that kind of a bounce,” Hellebuyck said. “I just move on, and that’s kind of the story of this year, those [bad] bounces. I just can’t really afford to give up another one, so that becomes my main focus, shutting it down.”

Andrew Copp added an empty-net goal to ice the win for the Jets.

“We shot ourselves in the foot,” the Canadiens’ Shea Weber said.

Jake Allen, who made 23 saves in the loss, his second straight.

“I was disappointed with my first period, obviously,” Allen said. “Other than that, I felt fine.”
