Jets training camp – day two

WINNIPEG, Manitoba – DAY 2; It was just another day at training camp for the players, this time in the quite empty MTS Centre on the corner of Portage Avenue and Hargrave Avenue, after day one in front of 1500 very loud fans, the Jets got kind of a laid back day to concentrate on plays, working with some young stars on helping grow their game and working out some lines for their upcoming game versus the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Winnipeg Jets star Brian Little said this about the reception at the MTS Iceplex on Saturday, “It was nice to have a reception like that, but it’s also a sigh of relief today to come out.
“As soon as we stepped on the ice we knew this was the real deal”. Little continued referring to the GO JET GO chants that erupted in the practice facility Saturday morning.
The Jets again broke into three groups for practice and had a 40 minute scrimmage game with Team Blue VS Team Red. Team Blue was filled with a good mixture of rookies and Team Red was the Jets vets.
Team Blue did not disappoint when they hit the ice at full steam and the Jets Mark Scheifele continued his streak and scored along with Levko Koper and Spencer Mahacek.
Blake Wheeler had the lone goal for Team Red, Team Blue won 3-1.
Jets Head Coach Claude Noel said, “Not much hitting in the first twenty minutes or so, that is classic training camp the young guys having too much respect for the veterans.”
The Winnipeg Jets met again at the MTS Centre on Monday for yet another practice before splitting the squads in two and sending half the team to Columbus, Ohio to play the Blue Jackets, the other half of the team will stay in Winnipeg to take on squad two of the Blue Jackets the same day.
