If you are a new York hockey fans, of any of the teams, you are really annoyed that the Winnipeg Jets paid a visit this week.
One game after disappointing Rangers fans with a third period rally, the Jets struck three times to defeat the Islanders in Brooklyn, 3-1, after trailing 1-0.
Jacob Trouba and Adam Lowry scored 22 ticks of the clock apart after the Isles had taken a 1-0 lead.
Connor Hellebuyck made 27 saves to get the win.
“It just kind of shows we’re comfortable in any style of game,” Lowry said. “I thought we did a real good job of defending tonight. We didn’t really give up a whole lot. That’s important when you’re missing a couple of your stars on the back end.”
Anders Lee had staked the Islanders to a 1-0 lead early in the third.
“It was nice that we were able to go out and score right after [we tied it],” Lowry said. “It had been a while, so it was nice that I didn’t miss that one. I’ve had some chances the last few games, I think. There was a stretch where I wasn’t really happy with where my game was going.”
The Jets improved to 17-8-2.
Nikolaj Ehlers scored, an empty-net goal late to close out the scoring.
“A grinding game,” said Winnipeg coach Paul Maurice, whose team played its third game in four days. “I think they had the rest advantage on us, but they accepted the game that was being played and got comfortable.”
The Isles dropped to 13-10-3.
“We’ve just got to find a way to get on the board,” Mathew Barzal said. “One goal in the NHL is tough to win with.”

Thomas Greiss made 21 saves in the loss.
“They don’t get paid to hang in; they’re paid to win. But yes, the way we’re playing, that’ll get us a lot of wins. But we’ve got to make sure that every moment against good teams in the National Hockey League, they can make you pay if you take the foot of the gas or have a brain cramp,” Islanders head coach Barry Trotz said after the loss. “It ends up in the back of your net, especially against the elite players in the League, and they’ve got a couple of those.”
