Jets streak past Senators

In Ottawa, the Senators broke out to a 1-0 lead and then watched as the Winnipeg Jets scored five unanswered goals in a 5-1 win on Thursday night.

Mark Scheifele had a hat trick and assist for the Jets.

“He’s earned it,” Jets coach Paul Maurice said. “He’s certainly played well for us.”

Laurent Brossoit made 29 saves to get the win.

Nick Paul staked the Sens to the early 1-0 lead.

“We just didn’t play smart enough tonight,” Senators head coach D.J. Smith said. “That’s really what it is. We turned a lot of pucks over. I didn’t think we got to their net nearly enough. We’ve got to be a little harder offensively.”

Kyle Connor picked up a goal and two points in the win.

“We played great,” Connor said. “I think our power play really got us going. We didn’t come out too hot, and then [we scored] a couple there on the power play, and in the second period really took over the game.”

Nikolaj Ehlers also scored for the Jets.
