In Raleigh Sunday night, the Winnipeg Jets found themselves in a tight match with the Carolina Hurricanes but Connor Hellebuyck made 33 saves to help the Jets get a 3-2 win to keep pace with the Nashville Predators in the Central Division ladder race.
Patrik Laine struck for two goals in the win as the Jets improved to 39-17-9.
“It’s exciting, he’s a goal-scorer,” Hellebuyck said. “It’s fun seeing the puck go in the back of the net. It leads to victories.”
Paul Stastny also scored for Winnipeg.
“I thought the guys in front of me were blocking a lot of the key shots and keeping the players to the outside, making my life pretty easy,” Hellebuyck r said.
Laine has scored in seven of the last eight games and has 35 goals on the season.
“I’m just trying to work hard every shift,” Laine said. “Things are going great, but there’s still lots of things we can do better. But I think we’re on a good roll right now.”
Teuvo Teravainen and Jordan Staal scored for the Hurricanes who dropped to 29-26-11.

Cam Ward made 20 saves in taking the loss.
“We came up short tonight, but the effort was there. [The Jets] made it hard to get to the net, they made it hard to create plays. That’s what good teams do. We’ve still got to find a way to win some games,” Staal said after the loss.
