WINNIPEG – The Winnipeg Jets continue to get better with a patchwork line up of AHL call ups who just seem to get better on a nightly basis. The Chicago Blackhawks were in town and the top dogs in the Western Conference were outplayed and dominated by this young Jets squad by a 4-0 score. The Jets who have nine regulars out of the line
up continue to get it done with these young, enthusiastic players.
Connor Hellebuyck got the shutout his first of the season as he stopped 27 Blackhawk shots . He improves to 7-4 on the season .
Josh Morrissey who has been solid in his rookie season notched his first career goal after walking in and converting a Mark Scheifele feed into the back of the net.
Morrissey lowered the boom with a huge hit on Hawks winger Vinnie Hinostroza and was assessed a charging penalty but the Hawks could not convert and the Jets seemed to gain momentum with a huge penalty kill.
Chris Thorburn scored his first of the season early in the third then Patrik Laine scored his 12th after he stuffed a missed Dustin Byfuglien wrap around into the top corner.
Nic Petan scored eleven seconds after Laine with his first of the season and that was the end of the night for Hawks goalie Corey Crawford who was pulled in favor of Scott Darling .
The Jets got a strong game from Nik Ehlers as well as he finished with two helpers on the night.
This was the first of five meetings between these two Central rivals.
The Jets will head out on a five-game road trip beginning in Philadelphia on Thursday night.
