PHILADELPHIA – It was that common theme again for the Winnipeg Jets in Philadelphia as they outplayed the Flyers and once again were stoned by a hot goalie. The Flyers were also very opportunistic on their scoring chances as they defeated the Winnipeg Jets by a score of 5-2 .
Steve Mason stopped 30 shots for the Flyers and improves to 6-0-1 in his career against the Jets.
Mason was a wall on numerous occasions throughout the game including four big stops on Nikolaj Ehlers who was flying all night with the puck.
Flyers got goals from Sean Couturier his fifth and Michael Raffl his third just 34 seconds apart in the first period on there first two shots on goal.
At the end of one, the Jets saw themselves in a deep hole being down 2-0.
Winnipeg got back in the game as Dustin Byfuglien ripped home his first of the season to get the monkey off his back.
Mark Streit restored the two goal lead for the Flyers as he converted on a Jets turnover for his fourth of the year.
Blake Wheeler converted a beautiful tic tac toe play from Ehlers and Mark Scheifele for his sixth of the season.
The Flyers continued to hold off the Jets and Wayne Simmonds pounced on another turnover for his 9th of the year before Brandon Manning added his fourth into an empty net to make the final 5-2.
Connor Hellebuyck stopped 17 of 21 shots thrown his way and took the loss for Winnipeg.
The Jets will head to Boston for a Saturday night tilt with the Bruins.
Notes : Some injured Jets took to the ice earlier in the morning skate as Bryan Little , Drew Stafford and Mark Stuart all skated today and looks like Stuart and Stafford are getting closer to returning to the line up.
