Jets rebound, down Stars in OT, 5-4 Dallas' Robertson scores twice in third to force OT

In Dallas, Jason Robertson scored twice in the third period for the Stars, including the game-tying goal with 20 seconds left in regulation on Friday to force extra time with the Winnipeg Jets.

Winnipeg’s Josh Morrissey scored on a breakaway 34 seconds into the extra session to rescue the Jets for a 5-4 win.

“[Adam Lowry] did a great job helping me in the corner there and broke the puck up, and [Morrissey] is an elite skater, so you get him into open space, he’s a handful,” Jets forward Blake Wheeler said. “He’s scored a couple of big goals for us the last few games, and that was a big moment.”

Connor Hellebuyck made 37 saves in the Jets win.

“It’s pretty clear for us when we watch the video and games we’ve played really well — the game we played at home against these guys (5-1 win on Nov. 8), most of the Carolina game (4-3 overtime win on Monday), and a lot of other nights this year — and when we don’t play that way, we go into Minnesota and get smoked,” Morrissey said. “If you need any evidence or reassurance that there is a certain way we have to play, that’s it right there.”

The Jets improved to 12-6-1.

Robertson tied the game with the Stars skating an extra attacker.

“I think our 6-on-5 this year has been a lot more effective,” Robertson said. “We’re just playing more desperate, getting pucks in front of the net, and really just trying to put everything in front of them. We were able to get a couple.”

Winnipeg’s Cole Perfetti and Jansen Harkins  bookended a goal by Dallas’ Wyatt Johnston  to take a 2-1 lead in the first period.

Jamie Benn scored late in the fist to tie the game, 2-2, headed to the second period.

“We don’t want to be putting ourselves in situations,” Benn said. “I liked the fight, I liked the compete right until the end. Hopefully, that turns out to be a big point.”

Lowry scored for Winnipeg in the middle frame to reclaim the lead, 3-2.

In the third period, Kyle Connor upped the advantage to 4-2 for the Jets, before Robertson scored his double.

“We’ll take the point,” Dallas coach Peter DeBoer said. “These games right after Thanksgiving, right after Christmas, are easier to play on the road. You play at home, you have family in town, you have distractions, and we had some self-inflicted stuff tonight that is uncharacteristic of our group. Over an 82-game schedule, it’s an important point. That’s probably the silver lining.”

Jake Oettinger made 23 saves in the Dallas loss.
