Jets losing skid hits five

NASHVILLE  – It was a road trip the Winnipeg Jets would like to forget as soon as possible as they are heading home with no points to show and five straight losses after a 5-1 loss to the Nashville Predators at the Bridgestone Arena.

The Jets came out with some bite as they controlled a lot of the play in the opening twenty minutes and even had a 1-0 lead courtesy of a weird goal off the stick of Dustin Nashville Predators logoByfuglien. It was Byfuglien’s second of the season. It was a point shot that was partially blocked that went straight up and landed in the back of the net. A great heads up play from Nikolaj Ehlers who carried the puck and found some space before dishing it off to Byfuglien.

The Jets were feeling pretty good about their game until the wheels fell off in the second period where the Preds scored three goals and took complete control of the game going up 3-1 after forty minutes.

Nashville got goals from Colin Wilson who scored a pair his third and fourth of the season, Ryan Johansen also got a pair his third and fourth goals of the season , and James Neal scored his 10th of the year.

Nashville was 3-of-5 on the power play and this was a big factor in the game.

Mike Fisher added three assists for the Predators and Johansen had a three-point night as well.

Pekka Rinne picked up his ninth win of the season for the Preds as he stopped 22 out of 23 Jets shots.

Connor Hellebuyck took the loss and made 25 saves for Winnipeg.

One area the Jets did improve on that has been a major factor during this skid was faceoffs as they finished the game at a fifty percent win rating. They did also out hit Nashville . Two small areas they can take as positives during this trying time.

These same two teams will play again on Sunday in Winnipeg .
