WINNIPEG – Heading into the five-year anniversary since the Jets returned to Winnipeg, fans are expecting some big things after the team failed to qualify for the post season after electrifying the fans with a post season appearance in 2014-15. The Jets had a dismal season but did get some love from the hockey gods moving up to snag the number two pick overall in the upcoming draft.
With the Heritage Classic Game coming up in fall of 2016, the Jets would love to have the spotlight shining on yet another draft gem to match the Oilers Connor McDavid.
There is one player who has caught the eye of hockey fans everywhere especially the fans north of the border in Winnipeg.
He is making Jets fans relive the glory days when a young Finnish rookie came to town and was an instant fan favorite. Teemu Selanne scored 76 goals and broke the rookie goal scoring record in the 1992-93 season, a season Jets fans will never forget.
Selanne was chosen 10th overall in the ‘88 NHL Draft and fans in Winnipeg are hoping to resurrect the new version of the Finnish Flash this year.
Winnipeg has a lot of talent in the system with some great picks to stock their cupboards but are still lacking that pure goal scorer, game breaker. A big winger with filthy hands and a rocket for a shot.
With the likes of Nik Ehlers, Nic Petan, Kyle Connor, Mark Scheifele, Josh Morrissey, Brendan Lemieux, Jacob Trouba, Connor Hellebuyck this team has some young talent. Plus add the vets Dustin Byfuglien, Blake Wheeler, Bryan Little, Tyler Myers all that’s needed is that big time goal scoring machine.
The Jets have been in desperate need for a big pure goal scorer and they think they may just have their guy available with the number two overall pick the Winnipeg Jets select from Tappara (FIN) RW, Patrik Laine.
