Jets get strong game from young guns

WINNIPEG  – The Jets who were coming off a tough loss on Tuesday night in Dallas were back at home for a rematch with the injury riddled Stars and looking for a big two points as they have a tough stretch ahead . The young Jets seemed to respond well as WPG Jets logothey came away with a 4-1 home ice win.

Coach Paul Maurice continued with his goalie rotation and may have found his man to roll with as Connor Hellebuyck had his best effort of the season stopping 38 of 39 Dallas shots including a few brilliant ones with the Stars on a two-man advantage.

This was a run and gun, back and forth game as both teams were flying and firing shots .

Winnipeg jumped on the Stars early and never looked back as Tyler Myers pounced on a loose puck 15 seconds into the game and buried a hard slapper into the top corner past Antti Niemi who got the start in the Dallas net.

Rookie Kyle Connor who was a healthy scratch on Tuesday night was back in the line up and he responded with his best game of the young season as he scored a beauty on a two on one with Nik Ehlers who fed him for his first NHL goal.

Patrik Laine sniped his fifth and sixth goals of the year both on the power play in the third period to round out the scoring for the Jets

Both teams had power play chances before the Jets finally converted to burry the Stars.

Winnipeg was without forward Drew Stafford who suffered an injury on Tuesday night and is listed as day to day.

Chris Thorburn and Mark Stuart were both in the line up for the Jets for only their third games of the season and their veteran poise and leadership seems to be what the young team needs.

Winnipeg left on a flight to Denver right after the game as they will face the Avalanche Friday night for their first back to back games of the season . Another big divisional game where the two points are a must for them.
