Jets find the back of the net in 3-1 win over Carolina

In Winnipeg Sunday night, the Jets’ Laurent Brossoit made 42 saves and was sensational in the first period when he faced 18 shots from the Carolina Hurricanes in a 3-1 win.

“If I didn’t let in that one goal,” Brossoit said. “I felt good in the game and obviously it’s nice to contribute and get that first win out of the way.”

The game was scoreless through 40 minutes before the Jets broke through on a goal from Patrik Laine.

The Canes responded with a goal from Micheal Ferland.

“It’s a tough one, especially to lose that late in the game,” Ferland said. “I thought we kept our foot on the gas the entire game, kept going at them and at them. Their goalie played really good. Our goalie played really good too. I think [we] would have at least deserved a point there.”

Bryan Little scored the game-winner with just over two minutes left in regulation.

“I saw quite a bit of net,” Little said. “He almost got a glove on it. Josh made a great pass, kind of opened up the seam and made a great pass right on my tape, so credit to him.”

The loss was the first for the Canes in regulation as they dropped to 4-1-1.

Kyle Connor closed out the scoring with empty net goal with less than one second left on the clock.

Petr Mrazek made 23 saves in taking the loss.

“It was a hard-fought game,” the Hurricanes’ Jordan Staal said. “Two minutes left, and that was it. We did a lot of great things, worked really hard. Sometimes they don’t go your way. I thought we could have had a better result, but that’s hockey sometimes. We’ll move forward from this one.”
