In Anaheim, Adam Lowry scored midway through the third period to snap a 2-2 tie and help send the Winnipeg Jets to a 3-2 win over the Ducks on Thursday night.
“For it to come in a win, and a couple important points for us, it’s awesome,” Lowry said. “For us to find that consistency, I thought we played another really good game, so pretty happy about it.”
The Jets improved to 41-29-3 off their third win in four games, and pulled to within three points of the third place Colorado Avalanche in the Central Division race.
Connor Hellebuyck made 18 saves in the Jets win.
Anaheim dropped to 23-39-10.
“We obviously don’t have the playoff race in our minds, but anytime we can create those sorts of situations and be in tight games, I think it’s a good thing for us,” Anaheim defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk said.
Frank Vatrano had tied the game, 2-2, in the sixth minute of the third period on a power play strike for the Ducks.
Cam Fowler staked the Ducks to a 1-0 lead in the first period.
“I’m super proud of him,” Ducks coach Dallas Eakins said. “I hope he’s proud of himself to have a career year in a year like this.”
The lead did not last long, Mason Appleton tied it just 45 seconds later, 1-1.
Kyle Connor put the Jets up, 2-1, in the middle frame.
“He’s had so many chances lately,” Winnipeg coach Rick Bowness said. “You just know it was a matter of time before the puck is going to go in for him.”
Connor’s goal came off an off man rush.
“Finally, we had a 2-on-1 that we shot the puck,” Bowness said. “We’ve had too many 2-on-1s lately that we haven’t even shot the puck and haven’t gotten a scoring opportunity, so it’s great to see us finally put that in.”
Lukas Dostal made 29 saves in the Ducks loss.
