Jets down Stars, 5-1 Winnipeg push point streak to seven games -

In Winnipeg, following a scoreless first period, the Dallas Stars took a 1-0 lead on the Jets off a goal from Jason Robertson. That was pretty much it the rest of the way as the Jets struck for four goals in the middle frame, and added one in the third for a 5-1 win.

The victory pushed the Jets point streak to seven games, their record improved to 8-3-1.

Connor Hellebuyck made 21 saves in the Winnipeg win.

Mark Scheifele hit for a double in the second period outburst for the Jets.

“We’re not sitting back on our heels, we’re playing on our toes, we’re making it hard on teams to make plays and make continuous passes,” Scheifele said. “That comes with playing fast and having good sticks and trusting your teammates. I think we’ve done a really good job with that.”

Dallas dropped to 8-4-1.

“Tonight was a tough night,” Dallas forward Tyler Seguin said. “We figured they’d come out and be ready after how they played in our rink and obviously having [Bowness] back. They were, and we just didn’t have a response tonight.”

Scheifele scored 21 seconds after the Robertson goal to tie it, 1-1.

“You know [Bowness] circles that one on his calendar, especially being at home in Winnipeg for that one,” Scheifele said. “It was a big win for us. We played well. [Hellebuyck] made some big saves when we needed him to, and we capitalized when we needed to. So it was a good game overall. Everyone had a piece of it.”

Pierre-Luc Dubois  scored at 4:37 of the second for a 2-1 lead, and Scheifele added his second for a 3-1 advantage.

“They’re starting to realize that we’ve got a good team here, and if we play the right way and we play fast and we pressure them, that first period was a pretty good example of it,” Jets coach Rock Bowness said. “We had a lot of great opportunities offensively from playing good defense and moving the puck quick. It’s starting to sink in. There’s always room for

With 74 seconds left in the second period, Saku Maenalanen  scored a deflection to give the Jets a 4-1 lead.

“I thought we had a really poor first period,” Dallas coach Peter DeBoer said. “I thought we kind of regrouped at the beginning of the second, scored the first goal, started to play, and then you know, just some poor decisions and some poor execution for five or six minutes and we lost all of our momentum. The game was essentially over at that point.”

Mason Appleton hit for an empty-net goal with 2:58 left in the third period for the 5-1 final.

“We were good off the rush and good in (the offensive) zone, and I thought we defended the right way tonight, too,” Appleton said of his line with Scheifele and Connor. “I think that can be a focus of our line, because sometimes you get caught offensively and sometimes they get a rush, but I thought we managed the game really well in that aspect tonight.”

Scott Wedgewood made 28 saves in the Stars loss.
