Jets continue to stock cupboard

WINNIPEG – The Winnipeg Jets had the 17th pick earlier and chose smooth skating slick handed winger Paul Bittner of the Portland Winterhawks of the WHL . They have the 25th pick as well, thanks to the Evander Kane trade with the Sabres , the team may move the pick but it’s highly unlikely as GM Kevin Cheveldayoff continues to stock the system with high-end prospects for the future.

The organization’s needs are down the middle although they will probably go with the best available player with this late round pick. 2015 NHL Entry Draft Logo

The team seems to be alright for depth at center ice for the upcoming year as they have Bryan Little who has become a valuable number one center , Mark Scheifele , Adam Lowry , Andrew Copp who signed late last season looks to make the jump , Mathieu Perreault who played mostly left wing last season is a center .

The team also has free agent veteran Jim Slater who they may choose to resign or go their separate ways. There is also the Alex Burmistrov mystery; he left the team for two years to play in the KHL but has now said he wants to come back to the NHL and the Jets still hold his rights and will have to decide what the plan is, probably closer to the draft .

There are also some interesting prospects waiting in the wings who may end up playing for the Moose in Nic Petan, Ryan Olsen, Chase De Leo, and Pavel Kraskovsky. So now the team looks pretty good down the middle for the future right?

It will be interesting come draft day as these Jets will also be thinking about potential moves including Dustin Byfuglien and captain Andrew Ladd who will both be entering the final years of their current deals.

The team will probably continue their current ways and go with character guys who will fit in with the current theme of physical, fast, big, and versatile players.

“With the 25th selection in the 2015 NHL Draft the Winnipeg Jets select from the Prince George Cougars of the Western Hockey League Jansen Harkins.”
