Jets closing season out on strong note, defeat Jackets, 5-4

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Winnipeg Jets sent Eric Comrie out tot he crease in his NHL debut Thursday night and he made 35 saves for his first NHL win in a 5-4 victory over the Blue Jackets.

“That was really exciting. I was happy to get in there. The team did really good job keeping everything to the outside. That really helped a lot,” Comrie said.

The win was the sixth straight for the Jets who are playing out the string, despite being eliminated from the post season race, with a sense of urgency and commitment to the crest on the sweater.

Jacob Trouba struck for two power-play goals and  Bryan Little, Mathieu Perreault,, and Mark Scheifele scored for Winnipeg.

“It’s one of those games where a lot of our chances we’re going in for us,” Little said.

The Jets are 39-35-7.

Columbus has lost five in a row now.

“No time to get down,” Jackets head coach John Tortorella said. “We’ve just got to keep on banging away here, hopefully get some results in the next couple of games and get going with the real stuff.”

Brandon Saad had two goals for Columbus and Nick Foligno and Boone Jenner  added markers in the loss.

“We don’t like losing. We’re not used to it in here and that’s something we’re going to fix real quick here,” Foligno said.

Joonas Korpisalo made 27 saves in taking the loss for the Jackets.
