WINNIPEG – The Winnipeg Jets were trying to start their own streak as they have yet to win three games in a row all season and they were trying to halt the red hot Columbus Blue Jackets who were riding a 13-game winning streak coming into the hostile confines of the MTS Centre.
Winnipeg finally had all the forwards healthy and back in the line up and were looking to stop the Blue Jackets who are suddenly the NHL’s top team.
The home crowd got going early on as the Jets got on the board just two and half minutes in as Shawn Matthias ripped home his third of the season to give the Jets the early lead.
Columbus came roaring back after a misplayed puck off the stick of Michael Hutchinson went to Brandon Saad who then got his own rebound and converted his 14th goal of the season to square things up at 1-1. Captain Nick Foligno scored his 12th on the power play to give the visitors a 2-1 lead after twenty.
Alexander Wennberg scored a pair his seventh and eighth and Lukas Sedlak got his third to round out the scoring for the Blue Jackets as they handed the Jets a 5-3 loss to win there 14th in a row.
The Jets managed to make things somewhat interesting as Bryan Little scored his sixth and Mathieu Perreault scored his third both on the power play but that was as close as it would get.
Sergei Bobrovsky made 31 saves for the Jackets to get his 23rd win of the season.
The Jets did have numerous scoring chances where they couldn’t hit the net and this was the story of the night a lot of missed chances and also some very poorpuck management from a team who need to find some consistency fast as they will be in tough for the final couple of playoff spots.
Michael Hutchinson was in the net for Winnipeg and made 30 saves on 35 shots.
The Jets will welcome the New York Islanders to town on Saturday.
