In Winnipeg, the Jets exacted a form of revenge against the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday night.
Kyle Connor and Blake Wheeler potted a goal apiece and three points each in a 5-2 Jets win on Tuesday night.
The win came one night after the Canucks had shutout the Jets, 4-0.
“That was really, really good tonight,” Winnipeg head coach Paul Maurice said. “[We were] driving pucks to the net, thinking shot first, and there was a lot more chaos around their net that we haven’t seen from our team. There was lots of direct play with the mindset of pucks to the net.”
Laurent Brossoit made 31 saves in the win.
“Especially after they scored one to cut the lead to one, for us to play the way we did, I think that’s the sign of a really good, elite team, not sitting back,” Brossoit said. “Those are all those little things that take a lot of veteran leadership. We did a really good job of that tonight.”
The Jets improved to 14-7-1.
Elias Pettersson and J.T. Miller scored for Vancouver.
“We’re not in a position to be splitting a two-game series,” Miller said. “We need to come out with at least a point today. At least just put a better effort on the ice than that. … There’s no excuses. We need to be better and push ourselves.”
The Canucks dropped to 9-15-2.
“We’ve got to be able to create more chances,” Pettersson said. “More direct, simpler plays. We weren’t good enough for 60 minutes, and definitely in the third period we’ve got to create.”
Paul Stastny and Mathieu Perreault had goals for the Jets.
“We really didn’t like our last game,” Perreault said. “I know we’re trying to simplify things in the [offensive] zone, try to get pucks low to high and have guys going to the net and we were able to do that tonight consistently and it showed in the result.”
Mason Appleton also scored for Winnipeg.
Braden Holtby made 34 save in the loss.
“Our guys wanted to push,” Vancouver head coach Travis Green said. “They wanted to have a good [third] period. They wanted to win
. But the other team has a say in that.
“I thought we lost way too many puck battles tonight. I thought we were a little soft when we had the puck at times, and that was the difference in the game. That was a big difference. We tracked those things from the night before, and for me that was the major difference in the game.”
