Jets blow two-goal lead, fall to Red Wings in shootout

WINNIPEG – With the first major storm of the season outside, the city of Winnipeg was under a severe weather watch and blizzard conditions hammering the city. The MTS Centre was still packed with a full house of crazy die hard Jets fans cheering on their Detroit-Red-Wings-Logoteam. The home squad welcomed the visiting Detroit Red Wings to town and the Wings spoiled the snow day party as they fought back from a two-goal deficit and won in a shootout 4-3.

Red Wings goalie Petr Mrazek stood on his head to keep the game close when the Jets were ahead by a couple of goals and he finished up with 31 saves and three big stops in the shootout to get his eighth win of the season.

The Red Wings got goals from Tomas Tatar his fourth , Anthony Mantha his fourth and Thomas Vanek scored his fifth.

Vanek scored a beauty in the shootout showing his veteran poise and captain Henrik Zetterberg scored the winner on a silky backhand shelf deke.

Connor Hellebuyck was making his 15th start in the last 18 games for the Jets and he stopped 27 Detroit shots and made a couple of stops in overtime to send it to a shootout.

He falls to 10-9-1 on the year.

Winnipeg jumped out to a 3-1 lead after twenty minutes and then fell asleep as the Wings battled back and tied things up before a back and forth third period.

Jets got goals from Andrew Copp his fourth , Dustin Byfuglien his thirrd and Patrik Laine scored his 17th of the season.

Laine is now tied with Sidney Crosby for the league lead in goals.

Laine and Byfuglien both had two points each as they set up each others goals as well.

Tough loss for the Jets after blowing the two goal lead and they will look to bounce back on Thursday night as they welcome the New York Rangers to town.
