Boone Jenner will have surgery Tuesday for a broken thumb and the Columbus Blue Jackets forward is expected to be out four weeks.
The Blue Jackets captain scored a goal and played 21:32 in a 4-2 loss at the Boston Bruins on Saturday, the Blue Jackets’ third straight defeat. He leads Columbus with 11 goals in 30 games, and his 22 points are second to Johnny Gaudreau (33).
Jenner was placed on injured reserve, and center Josh Dunne was recalled from Cleveland of the American Hockey League. The 24-year-old forward could make his season debut when the Blue Jackets (10-18-2) play the Dallas Stars at Nationwide Arena on Monday (7 p.m. ET; BSOH, BSSWX, ESPN+, SN NOW).
Dunne has 11 points (five goals, six assists) in 24 AHL games this season. His previous NHL experience was six games with the Blue Jackets in 2020-21.
The Blue Jackets already are without defenseman Zach Werenski, who is out for the season because of a shoulder injury, and forward Jakub Voracek, who likely is out for the season because of a concussion. They also are missing defensemen Adam Boqvist (foot), Jake Bean (shoulder) and Nick Blankenburg (ankle), and goalie Joonas Korpisalo (lower body).
