Jenks, Tyson Spink combine for five goals in Walleye rout

TOLEDO, OH –  A.J. Jenks led the charge with a four point night as the Walleye destroyed the Wheeling Nailers 7-0 Friday night at the Huntington Center. Toledo has an overall record of 37-12-2-1 and is 16-5-1-0 at home.

Toledo started the game with a blistering slap shot from defenseman Nolan Zajac for his 10th goal of the season at 4:16 of the first period. Later, Tyson Spink blasted in a slap shot at 10:21 of the second period for his 27th of the year to push Toledo’s lead to 2-0.

The Jenks show started at 15:19 of the second when he took a pass from Alden Hirschfeld and tipped in his 17th goal of the season on the power play. The second from A.J. came at 17:59 when he cut in front of the Wheeling net and sent in a backhand shot for a 4-0 Walleye lead after two periods.

Simon Denis picked up a power play goal for his 9th of the season at 4:35 of the third period with a helper from A.J. Jenks.

The hat trick goal from Jenks came when he bulled his way to the Wheeling net and beat Nailers goaltender Sean Maguire on the backhand. Tyson Spink scored his second of night with a backhand shot with 2:07 left in third period to complete the scoring.

Walleye Notes: Goaltender Jake Paterson stopped all 17 of Wheeling’s shots for his fifth shutout of the season and his record is 26-9-1-1 on the season. The fifth shutout is a new Toledo Walleye record for shutouts in a single and he ties David Goverde (1996-97) for the most in Toledo ECHL history… The hat trick was the second in a Walleye uniform for Jenks. His first came on April 12, 2015 vs. Kalamazoo.
