Jacksonville wins third straight, second over Greenville

JACKSONVILLE, FL – Saturday night in Jacksonville, the Jacksonville Icemen (14-23-3-2, 33 points), winners of four of their last five games, hosted the Greenville Swamp Rabbits (18-21-3-1, 40 points) in game two of a three game “Faith and Family” weekend series.

Greenville started Ty Rimmer (11-10-0-1) in net and Jacksonville started Austin Lotz (8-5-1-1).

Jacksonville would score the only goal of the first period when Cameron Critchlow picked up a loose puck in the Greenville zone and, after getting in close to the Greenville goal, passed the puck over to Garet Hunt who scored past Rimmer. For Hunt, it was his third straight game scoring the first goal of the game and his ninth of the season.

Jacksonville would outshoot Greenville in the period 12-7 and each team would register four minutes in penalties.

Scoring would be limited in the second period also, as Greenville would tally the only goal of the period when Shane Walsh recorded his second of the season by beating Lotz. No assists were awarded on the goal. In fact, that would be the only goal of the period as the second period ended with the game tied 1-1.

Just as Greenville accounted for the only goal of the period, they would account for the only penalties in the period, as they were assessed eight minutes. After two, they would had 12 penalty minutes while Jacksonville still had only four. Each team had nine shots on goal for the period with Jacksonville holding a 21-16 advantage after forty minutes.

One of those penalties that Greenville got in the second was a double minor on Joe Basaraba for high sticking at 16:55, a penalty that carried over to the third if Jacksonville did not score. There were 55 seconds left on the penalty when the third period started and there was only one second left on it when Jacksonville scored. Elgin Pearce, who had just returned to the team from a callup to Manitoba, scored his 14th goal of the season, when his wrister beat Rimmer under the glove. Critchlow and Christopher Dienes were awarded the assists.

Jacksonville would tack on an insurance goal at 15:20 when Bobby MacIntyre got his 10th of the season with assists going to Brendan Collier and Scott Savage. The scoring ended there and Jacksonville had the 3-1 win.

Jacksonville dominated the shots on goal in the third, outshooting the Swamp Rabbits 13-4. For the game, Jacksonville outshot Greenville 34-20. Each team had four minutes in penalties in the period, Greenville ending with 16 penalty minutes, Jacksonville eight.

Icechips: For Jacksonville, it was their fifth win in their last six games. That, coupled with Atlanta’s 4-0 win over Norfolk Saturday night, left the Icemen three points behind the Admirals as the Icemen attempt to get out of the cellar of the ECHL’s Eastern Conference… The three stars of the game were all from Jacksonville: Elgin Pearce—1st, Cameron Critchlow—2nd and Austin Lotz—3rd… Attendance for the game was listed as 7,218… Greenville and Jacksonville finish up their three games in three nights series in Jacksonville Sunday afternoon with a 3 p.m. start.
