JACKSONVILLE, FL – Following a tough loss Friday night, the Jacksonville Icemen bounced back to rout the South Carolina Stingrays 4-1 on Saturday in front of 7,800 fans at Veterans Memorial Arena, snapping the Stingrays’ six-game win streak.
Josh Erickson was first on the board for the Icemen on a feed from Everett Clark and Cody Fowlie at the 10 minute mark of the first period. At 14:05 in the second period, Matt Ustaski notched an unassisted goal to give the Icemen a 2-0 lead heading into the final frame.
Clark added another unassisted goal at the 10 minute mark of the third period for his second point of the night. With 2 minutes left to play, Tanner Eberle tallied an unassisted, short-handed goal on the empty net, extending his point streak to seven games.
The Icemen scored in each period of Saturday’s contest while goalie Austin Lotz was phenomenal stopping 20 shots, keeping the Stingrays scoreless until the final frame when Kelly Zajac recorded the Stingrays’ lone goal.
The Icemen conclude their inaugural season next weekend with home games Thursday and Friday against in-state rival the Florida Everblades, before traveling to Estero on Saturday for their final game of the season against the Everblades.
