TOLEDO, Ohio – C.J. Motte made 34 saves and Colin Jacobs scored twice as the Jackals propelled past the Toledo Walleye tonight at the Huntington Center, 2-1.
The first period centered around the goaltenders as C.J. Motte and Jake Paterson displayed exceptional play stopping every shot attempt. Motte turned aside 11 shots in the opening stanza while Paterson stopped 13 shots, sending the game to the second period scoreless.
The game’s first goal came at the 10:58 mark of the second period as Colin Jacobs buried a pass from Cason Hohmann on a two-on-one rush. Less than four minutes later the Walleye responded on the power-play. Andrew Prochno passed the puck to A.J. Jenks who banked it off of Motte’s pad and onto the stick of Shane Berschbach for the backdoor finish.
The evenly-played contest headed to the third period tied 1-1 and remained that way until 11:18when the Jackals pulled ahead for good. Colin Jacobs won the face-off back to Spiro Goulakos who fired the puck and saw it bounce into the slot and back onto Jacobs’ stick. Jacobs wheeled and ripped a wrist shot past Paterson for his second of the night and eighth of the season, which proved to be the game-winning goal.
C.J. Motte fended off the Walleye attack, stopping 34 of 35 shots faced to earn his eighth victory of the season. Jake Paterson allowed two goals on 30 shots and was saddled with the loss.
