In Brooklyn Saturday, the New York Islanders scored three power play goals including two by Ander’s Lee in a 4-2 win over the Los Angeles Kings.
New Islanders head coach Doug Weight is now 2-0 since replacing the fired Jack Capuano on Tuesday.
“We’re entering relevance,” Weight said . “They’re starting to believe.”
Jason Chimera and John Tavares also scored for the Isles who are on a three-game win streak.
“We were a little [upset] with the way things were going, getting opportunities but not finishing,” Lee said. “Special teams are going to be huge down the stretch and right now we have the momentum, so we have to keep that going.”
The Kings have been unable to string much anything together this season and have now lost three in a row and four of six.
Jeff Carter and Drew Doughty scored for LA and even Carter was unable to lift the Kings.
“They scored those two power-play goals [the] same way, where they’re between the goalie and the defenseman in front,” LA head coach Darryl Sutter said. “We gotta stop the puck and win a battle.”
Those two LA goals rallied the Kings back from a 2-0 hole but that was all that was left to the offense

Jean-Francois Berube made 34 stops for the Isles in the win.
“Just our composure, we didn’t panic,” Berube said. “We gave up two quick goals, but we didn’t see anything changing. I think we actually picked it up after we gave up those two quick goals. They’re a good team, really big, and that’s what we had to do, outwork them.”
Peter Budaj took the LA loss on 34 saves.
