In Calgary, the visiting New York Islanders ended a seven-0game skid on Saturday when Oliver Wahlstrom scored on penalties for a 5-4 win over the Flames.
Ilya Sorokin made 35 saves in the win.
The Isles moved to 6-6-5.
Calgary opened the scoring on a strike by Martin Pospisil put at 12:16 for a 1-0 lead to the Flames.
New York tied it, 1-1, at 16:52 with a marker from Hudson Fasching.
In the middle frame, Kyle Palmieri scored off the power play for a 2-1 lead to the Isles at 4:07 of the period.
Mathew Barzal pushed the advantage out to 3-1 at 8:07 of the second.Calgary scored two straight to tie the game, 3-3.
The first of the pair came at 17:03 of the second on a marker from Blake Coleman for a 3-2 score, and the second from MacKenzie Weegar at 3:12 of the third for a 3-3 tie.
The Flames dropped to 6-8–2.
Just 19 seconds after the Flames tied it, Brock Nelson pushed the Islanders back in front, 4-3.
Calgary forced the extra session at 13:43 of the third on a goal from Yegor Sharangovich for a 4-4 tie.
Jacob Markstrom made 29 saves in the loss.
