Isles double-up Vegas, 6-3

In Brooklyn Monday, the Las Vegas Golden Knights were riding a six-game win streak but the New York Islanders’ John Tavares  scored twice to lead the Isles to a 6-3 win.

“We’ve got contributions up and down the lineup,” Tavares said. “Obviously, that’s key. We’re just playing with pace, the execution’s there. We’re just competing really hard.”

Tavares was referring to the Islanders scoring coming from Andrew Ladd, Mathew Barzal, Cal Clutterbuck, and Nikolay Kulemin.

The Knights got goals from William Karlsson, Alex Tuch and Colin Miller and 1-0 and 2-1 leads in the game; they dropped to 8-2-0 on the season.

Jaroslav Halak made 31 saves.

“We had a tough game tonight,” Knights head coach Gerard Gallant said. “We’ve got to play harder and a little bit better on the road to win. We know that. We had a great homestand. We’ll mark this off the books. We’ve got to get ready for the New York Rangers [Tuesday] night. We weren’t happy with tonight’s performance, but we get ready for the next one.”

The Knights have been crapping out in goal.  Oscar Dansk got the start for Vegas but left late in the middle frame with an undisclosed injury;  Maxime Lagace finished up the match.

“The medical guys will look at him tonight or tomorrow, so I really don’t have an answer for you right now,” Gallant said of Dansk.

Lagace made just seven saves and surrendered four goals in the loss; the appearance was his NHL debut.

“Not the start I obviously wanted for my first NHL [appearance], but I’ll watch the video and see what I can do better and then right back at it [Tuesday],” Lagace said.
