Islanders steal OT win in Winnipeg

WINNIPEG  – The homestand continued for the Winnipeg Jets as they welcomed the New York Islanders to town and were hoping to get back on track at the MTS Centre where they have struggled of late. The Islanders got some luck as they tied the game late with 29 seconds remaining and then used Nik Ehlers’ face on a weird shot that rebounded right to Kyle Okposo who buried his 16th for the winner.

The Jets have now lost six in a row at home and have a day off before a back-to-back on the weekend.NY Islanders logo

Thomas Greiss got the start in net for the Islanders and he made some key saves and ended the game with 26 saves to pick up his 18th win of the year.

The Islanders got goals from Calvin de Haan his second, Shane Prince his fourth, Anders Lee his 11th and Okposo.

The Jets played a solid game and once again were the victims of bad luck with some unfortunate bounces but with their young players playing more minutes and being put into bigger roles the future does look bright.

Winnipeg got goals from Mark Scheifele scored a pair his 16th and 17th of the season, Tyler Myers scored his seventh.

This was a physical affair as the Jets lost Anthony Peluso early in the first to an upper body injury and he could be lost for the rest of the season. Ehlers took the puck off the face which led to the winning goal and is reported to be alright and won’t miss any time.

Michael Hutchinson was in the pipes for the Jets and he stopped 23 of 27 Islanders shots.

The Jets will welcome the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday and then the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday night.

Winnipeg sits 26-32-5 overall and see’s themselves 13 points out of the final wild card spot.
