Islanders blank Kraken, 4-0 Fifth shutout for Sorokin this season

In Elmont, Ilya Sorokin made 32 saves  and the New York Islanders shut out the Seattle Kraken, 4-0, on Tuesday night.

Bo Horvat scored in the second period to give the Isles a 4-0 advantage, it was his first with New York since being traded.

“Definitely felt nice,” Horvat said of his goal. “Definitely felt even better to get the win.”

The Isles improved to 27-22-5.

“We got to keep it rolling with the win,” Horvat said. “Everybody’s buying into playing [well] defensively and it’s just leading to our offensive chances. So, we [have] to continue to keep doing that.”

Samuel Bolduc and Simon Holmstrom scored in the opening frame to give the Isles a 2-0 lead.

“Our goaltender played well for us and gave us an opportunity to get our legs under us,” Islanders coach Lane Lambert said.

It was Bolduc’s first career NHL goal;.

“Amazing,” Bolduc said. “For sure, it’s something that I’ll never forget.”

The Kraken dropped to 29-16-5.

“Obviously you don’t want to use it as an excuse,” Seattle forward Jaden Schwartz said of the break. “A lot of teams are in [a] similar situation. … We know what our game looks like when we’re sharp.”

Zach Parise extended the Islanders’ lead to 3-0 in the middle frame.

“It’s not ideal,” Seattle coach Dave Hakstol said. “It’s not ideal to lose a guy on his very first shift 20 seconds into the hockey game, but those things happen. We’ve been able to adapt and overcome.

” … That’s not the reason for tonight. It’s not ideal for sure to go down to 11 forwards and 59 minutes to go in the game, but that’s not the reason that we couldn’t get ourselves going tonight.”

Martin Jones made 24 saves in the Seattle loss.
