SAN ANTONIO, Tex., – The Iowa Wild (18-18-2-1, 39 points) defeated the San Antonio Rampage (16-19-3-0, 35 points) 2-1 in overtime in front of 7,303 fans on Saturday night at the AT&T Center. Right wing Christoph Bertschy scored twice, including the game-
winning goal 3:37 into overtime to lift Iowa to victory. Iowa records the first ever four-game winning streak in the team’s four-year existence and ties the team mark for consecutive road wins. Iowa goalie Alex Stalock (12-10-2) stopped 33 shots for the win as the team moved back to .500. Rampage goalie Spencer Martin (15-9-1) stopped 37 of 39 in his team’s fourth straight loss. Iowa begins a four-game home stand at 7 PM on Monday.
The Wild struck for the first period’s only goal with a power-play strike just 5:26 into the frame. Center Pat Cannone controlled the puck on the right-wing side and snapped a pass to Colton Beck on the Rampage goalline. Beck tipped a quick pass to Christoph Bertschy in the slot. He potted a one-timer over the shoulder of Spencer Martin for his seventh goal of the year and a 1-0 lead for Iowa.
The Rampage countered to tie the game at 16:44 of the second, connecting for a power-play goal. Center Jim O’Brien won a faceoff back to the Iowa blueline. Defenseman Cody Corbett sent a shot to the Iowa net that goalie Alex Stalock deflected. Forward Joe Whitney nudged the rebound into the open net for his ninth goal of the season and a 1-1 game through two periods of play.
After a scoreless third period, the two teams skated to overtime. The Wild gained control of the puck in its own zone and quickly transitioned. Center Grayson Downing snapped a pass to center ice for Bertschy. He took off on a breakaway for his second goal of the night at 3:37 of overtime. Defenseman Zach Palmquist added an assist on Bertschy’s eighth goal of the year for the 2-1 final
